Wine tasting
In the historic castle district, next to the 18th century Rákóczi cellar, you will find Hotel Bodrog’s wine cellar, where you can taste 6-8 high-quality Tokaj wines.
The duration of the wine tasting is about one hour, with professional guidance. Cheese, apples and scones can be ordered as food to eat with the wine. (Wine tasting is held for groups of over 8 persons.)
One of the most important things that defines the identity of this huge wine region are the sublime grape varieties here. Tokaj-Hegyalja's two defining grape varieties are Furmint and Linden Leaf, along with the Yellow Muscat which has been present here for centuries. Today's typical hegyalja grape varieties can be considered the finest to date from a long heritage and history in this wine region which at one point grew between 20 to 25 different grape varieties.
Tokaj is a wine speciality that is famous throughout the world. Since the 16th century, tokaj wine has been praised throughout Europe. It was at this time that the phrase, "wine of kings, king of wines" was coined to describe Tokaj wine. Its flavour, taste and aroma are unique in the world and cannot be found in any other wine. Tokaj became associated with the concept of quality. Every wine in the world was compared to Tokaj wine. Our wine became the benchmark of quality in the 18th century for other wine producing regions and countries to meet. Almost everywhere there was an attempt to produce wines as good as ours. Tokaj wines have won nearly five hundred gold medals in wine competitions.

Sárospatak
Sárospatak is a gem of Hungarian historic cities, a cultural and tourist centre located at the foot of the picturesque Zemplén Mountains, on the banks of the Bodrog River. Its name evokes the glory days of Hungarian history, the lions of the war of independence….. The Rákóczi’s!
There has been a royal estate in Sárospatak since the 12th century. Between 1534 and 1541 Péter Perényi built a large five-storey residential tower on the southeast corner of the city wall. The most recent castle buildings were designed by Alessandro Vedani of northern Italy and were built by Hungarian craftsmen in late-19th-century style. The Romanesque and Gothic carving fragments are the remains of the former Domokos monastery and the nearby castle. Between 1540 and 1567 the Eastern Perényi Wing was built. In 1616 Zsuzsanna Lorántffy, the owner at the time, married György Rákóczi II, who later became prince of Transylvania. Thus Sárospatak became the center of the Rákóczi estates. From 1640 the castle was strengthened and the Lorántffy wing was built, followed by the loggia and the cannon terrace. From 1676 Ferenc Rákóczi II owned the castle, the fortifications of which were destroyed in 1702 at the command of the Emperor. From 1711 to 1776, the castle owners: the Trautson Princes, were baroque, and from 1807 the Dukes of Bretzenheim renewed the castle in their romantic, eclectic tastes, preserving it’s Renaissance character. Since 1875 it has been owned by the Windischgrätz Princes and since 1945 by the Hungarian State. The museum opened in 1950 and has been the castodian of the castle ever since.
The Reformed College of Sárospatak was founded in 1531. Its façade, the so-called Grand College, was built between 1806 and 1815. It is one of the most beautiful classical buildings in the northeast of Hungary. The Great Library was designed by Mihály Pollach and contains over 350,000 volumes of books. Today, the oldest building in the complex is the Berna Row which is a school history museum with 6 rooms.
The following patrons had a huge influence on the early history of the Pataki college: Péter Perényi, who played a patron role in 1530, and later György Rákóczi I and his wife Zsuzsanna Lorántffy. They provided buildings for the school, eminent teachers, a high-quality library, a printing press and drew up the rules and guidlines for the governance and ethos of the college. In the College, lower, secondary and tertiary education was available, which was a combination of different types of schools for young children right through to adults. In addition to theological education, the emphasis was placed on humanities, law, pedagogy and practical training. Over the past centuries, the College has become a role model and influencing factor in the life of the Town. Eminent writers in Hungarian history, have called the college the capital of classical culture, it is also known as Athens on the Bodrog. Csokonai says it is a seat of inspiration and creativity in Hungary, and later it got the name of Cambridge in English thanks to its high level of English.
In the vicinity of the Rákóczi Cellar you will find the wine tasting cellar of Hotel Bodrog. "The underground world is for forgeting the above ground world," Said Kálmán Mikszáth. But it's not just the architecture of the cellar that's interesting - the wine tastes the best where it matures: in the cellars that are hundreds of years old. The cellar next to the Castle of Sárospataki is a living witness to the grape and wine culture dating back to the Middle Ages. It was used by Perényiek’s, Dobók’s and Rákócziak's former estates. The authentic atmosphere, the constant temperature of 13 °C and the humidity of 96% create ideal conditions for wine-tasting.
Tengerszem
An excellent excursion for our guests who like active recreation and nature is visiting Tengerszem on Megyer Mountain. Megyer Mountain is 324m high and was formed during a volcanic eruption millions of years ago. Due to it’s hardness and crystalline structure parts of the mountain were excavated for millstone production
In the quarrying pit of the abandoned millstone mine, the lake, now known as Tengerszem, formed from the rainwater. The lake has a body of water of about 4,000 m2 and a maximum depth of 6.5 m.
Next to the raft you can see the accommodation of the former miners. In 1977, the lake and its surroundings were declared a nature reserve. Today, the Malomkő nature trail, a popular hiking spot, runs from the centre of Sárospatak to Tengerszem with a red hiking trail sign.
Quarry
Megyer Hill was already a quarry by the 15th century. For centuries, millstones have been quarryed and worked using similar techniques, tools and manual labour. The mine was closed in 1907 due to a continuous decline in production.

Zemplén Adventure Park including Bobsleigh Sátoraljaújhely
All year, all season Bobsled Track
The longest bobsleigh track in the country is at the Adventure Park. Located 10 km from Sárospatak, it has a length of 2275 m. A completely safe car on four rails is used to ride down the track.
In addition to the brake the rider can apply manually, the cars are equipped with centrifugal brakes, which start braking at 32 km/h, thereby limiting the increase in speed on sections where the slope of the track is greater than 10%.
High Mountain Chairlift
Hungary longest chairlift is open all year round at the park. It has a running length of 1332m and takes 50 minutes to ride back and forth. There are also cafes serving food at the start and middle stations.
Adventure Park
The purpose of the attractions provided by the adventure park is to help everyone exceed their own "limitations", both physically and psychologically, so that visitors can take part in a physical and mental adventure, while at the same time getting a completely new and unique experience as they spend time at the park.
They can experience situations that their favorite adventure novel character or movie star has experienced in an exciting book or film.
The Adventure Park is not only aimed at entertaining visitors and tourists visiting Zemplén but also offers experiences to organised school and work groups, whether it be large sports activities, class trips, workplace leisure activities or team-building training.
Children can safely take part in a ‘high ropes’ trail from a height of 110 cm (1 trail for children), adult ’high ropes’ trails can be used by people who are 150 cm or taller (3 trails). The duration of each trail is approximately 40-60 minutes. At the end of the ’high ropes’ trails is a 60m slide called ’CANOPY’. The park is TÜV certified. In the interest of safety, groups participate in compulsory training to learn the correct use of safety devices and basic alpine technical knowledge.

High Mountain Ski Resort
The 9,300 square meters (9,300 square meters) four year old ski slope can be found in Sátoraljaújhely, 10 km from Sárospatak. The plastic piste feels the same as skiing on snow. The new type of plastic "NEVEPLAST" does not damage the ski equipment, it does not need to be lubricated either.
Skiing and snowboarding all year round. In the absence of snow, national championships, student olympics and disabled championships can be organized on the field.
TUBBY Track
Sit in a huge rubber ring that can slide down a closed 200-metre winding track called "TUBBY". The use of the slide does not require any experience. There are also four adventure park ’high ropes’ trails of different levels of difficulty, for children through to adventurous adults. The 60-metre Tyrolean slide "CANOPY" can be found at the end of the ’high ropes’ trails.
Ski house – ski history museum: In the exhibition space you will see old ski equipment and some parts of an early cable car. Photo documents of old events and tourist events can be also be seen on the tableau.
